First day setup

Confirm the panel shows the teacher laptop, then open the board. Start with a timer and an agenda line before you decorate the wall.

Full-screen and HDMI

Windows: F11 or the browser full-screen control. Chromebooks: full-screen in the browser menu. iPad Safari: install the PWA, or rotate and hide the toolbar. Name the OS — “press the green button” wastes a planning period.

HDMI lag is a panel issue. Lower laptop resolution or use the panel’s native browser. Do not run two full-screen videos behind the board.

Microphone permission (noise meter)

Allow the mic so the bar can move. Audio is not recorded or uploaded. If you deny it, the meter cannot see volume — it is not broken.

To revoke: site settings in Chrome or Edge → microphone. On locked-down campus browsers, ask IT whether mic access is blocked by policy.

Save vs local

Closing the tab can drop unsaved widget positions. If the layout matters tomorrow, save. If it was a one-off brain break, skip the account.

Install as a PWA

Install from Chrome or Edge (install icon in the address bar). There is no native App Store package. Steps: classroom screen app.

On iPad, Add to Home Screen in Safari is related but not identical to a desktop PWA. Test on the cart iPad you actually project from.

Embeds: Slides, PPT, YouTube

Dedicated walkthrough: embed Google Slides. If YouTube autoplay is blocked, that is browser policy — click play on the panel.

When something breaks

Frozen tab: refresh once. Still frozen: try another browser. Still frozen: troubleshooting.

Still stuck: email support@myclassscreen.org with browser, OS, and whether the panel is HDMI or a built-in browser.

Campus networks and filters

If the board loads as a blank frame, try a second network (teacher hotspot) to see whether the filter is blocking websockets or canvas. Report the domain to IT with a timestamp.

The board is HTTPS — do not paste HTTP image URLs into backgrounds. A stuck old widget after a release is often cache: hard refresh, or reinstall the PWA.

Use a clean Chrome profile named “Board” for the panel. Grammar tools, dark-mode injectors, and ad blockers love to break canvases. If the clock widget is wrong, fix the device clock — not the app.

How to file a useful ticket

Include: browser, OS, HDMI vs panel browser, whether a PWA is installed, and the last action before failure. Say whether names were saved or only local, and whether the mic prompt appeared.

Photo of the whole panel (include the URL bar). Use dummy names when you can. If you already tried another browser, say so. Feature requests are welcome — mark the subject as a request.

Common fixes

• Timer stuck at zero: start again; check you do not have two board tabs open.
• Names empty after lunch: different save or logged-out profile — check the save name before retyping.
• Meter at zero: OS mute → site permission → hardware mute.
• Drawing will not mark: try the laptop mouse; palm rejection on panels is common.
• QR will not scan from the back: enlarge the widget and increase contrast.
• Poll counts wrong after refresh: live tallies are in-memory — screenshot if you need a record.
• PWA shows an old board: uninstall and reinstall from the live origin.
• Full-screen black: move the window onto the panel display before full-screen.
• Wrong roster on a shared cart: check which Chrome profile is signed in.
• Embed shows a login wall: that is Google’s wall — sign into Slides on that machine first.

Open myclassscreen.org/board/ on this machine and start a timer. If it works, you are done. If not: second browser → second device → email support with those results.
