Digital voice level display: how to run one

A digital voice level display works when students already know what each level means — the screen is a reminder and feedback loop, not a magic silencer. This hub ties together traffic lights, noise meters, and framework-aligned cues (PBIS expectations, CHAMPS Conversation) without inventing “X% quieter” statistics. Step 1 — Define levels in student language
Agree on a short scale (commonly 0–3 or 0–4): silent, whisper, table talk, presentation voice. Post the same words on the board every day. Changing labels weekly trains students to ignore the display.
Step 2 — Project a static cue

Step 3 — Add a live noise meter carefully

Step 4 — Pair with transitions
Voice levels change when the timer ends. Announce the next level before you start the countdown so the display and your words match.
