Is MyClassScreen free? Yes, and here is how that works

Yes. Every widget, all 22 templates and unlimited saved boards cost nothing, with no premium tier, no trial and no account. Ads on our articles pay for the site; the board itself never shows ads.

What is free

Everything on the board is free, and there is nothing to upgrade to. MyClassScreen has one plan, and it costs $0.

Included Cost
All 43 widget types, from the timer and name picker to polls, work symbols and review games Free
All 22 ready-made templates Free
Saving boards, as many as your browser holds Free
Several screens inside one board, switched with Next and Previous Free
Built-in backgrounds and uploading your own image Free
Copy link sharing with colleagues Free
Full-screen mode for projectors and panels Free

There is no trial that ends, no feature that unlocks after payment and no limit on how many classes use it. You also do not need a credit card, an email address or a password. Open the board and start teaching.

How a free site is funded

Running the site still costs money: hosting, the domain, and the time spent writing guides and fixing bugs. The board and the guides are free. Marketing pages may load a third-party script. The board at /board/ does not.

We do not sell paid placements. Vendors cannot pay to change what our comparisons say. Our editorial policy explains how we test and correct pages.

Accounts and saving

MyClassScreen has no accounts at all. That is a deliberate choice, and it shapes how saving works.

When you press Save Board and type a name, the board is written to your web browser's local storage on that device [3]. It then appears under My Boards whenever you open the board in the same browser. Nothing is uploaded to an account, because there is no account to upload to.

What that means day to day:

  • No sign-up, ever. Teachers and students never create logins.
  • Boards stay on one device. A board saved on the classroom computer does not appear on your home laptop.
  • Copy link moves a board. Press Copy link on the toolbar, then open that link on the other device and save it there.
  • Clearing browser data removes saved boards, and so do private windows and computers that reset overnight.

The saving boards guide walks through each step, including how to recover when a board goes missing.

Schools and districts

Because the board is free and has no accounts, a school can use it without a purchase order, a contract or a licence count. There are no seats to assign and no renewal dates to track.

What IT teams usually ask for:

  • The address to allow: myclassscreen.org, including the /board/ path.
  • Student data: students do not sign in, and polls are tallied by the teacher, so no student device sends answers.
  • The microphone: the sound meter reads volume in the browser and does not record or upload audio. If the microphone is blocked, it falls back to a manual slider.
  • Where saved boards live: in each teacher's browser, not on our servers.

US schools often check tools against COPPA and FERPA before approving them [4]. Our schools page and privacy policy give the details an approval request needs.

Compared with paid tools

The best-known paid option is Classroomscreen. Its prices below come from its public pricing page, checked October 2026 [1].

MyClassScreen Classroomscreen Basic Classroomscreen Pro
Price (checked October 2026) $0 $0 $3 per month, billed annually at $36 (USD)
Saving whole boards Free, stored in your browser Not included Included, saved to your account
Works across devices Through Copy link Account login Account login with saved screens
School option Free for everyone Free Organization plan; 25 licences listed at $525 per year

To be fair to Classroomscreen: Pro buys real conveniences, such as screens that follow you to any computer, folders and 30-day undo. Basic also includes remote poll voting on student devices, which we do not offer. If you need those, the subscription can be worth it. Our full comparison covers the differences in detail.
