First day of school smart board ideas

On day one, project three things students can see without a lecture: what to do now (agenda + timer), how loud to be (traffic light or noise meter), and how turns work (name picker). Everything else is optional. These ideas work on Promethean, SMART, ViewSonic, or any classroom TV running a browser full-screen.
1. Welcome countdown at the door
Set a classroom timer for unpacking and finding seats. Same duration every day afterward so the cue becomes culture, not a one-off gimmick. More timer patterns: timer strategies.
2. Learning targets in large text
Use a text widget for date, schedule block, and one clear “today we will…” line. Avoid packing the whole syllabus onto the board.
3. Voice-level rehearsal
Teach levels 0–3 with a traffic light while students practice whispering vs partner talk. Methodology: digital voice level display.
4. Fair name games
